Turok 1 or 2 (now remastered on pc with mods to boot. and IMO Black Mesa isn't nearly as good as the original) If you like atmosphere over written plot this would belong in the first list. Half-life (okay the plot that is there is good, but it's more about everyone running around trying to survive aliens and marines. Painkiller (terrible TERRIBLE plot, but amazing fun. Starts almost offensive and made for military gun nuts, but soon you'll meet Saddam Hussein and shoot at ninjas) Soldier of Fortune (there's a community edition out there for free, I highly recommend this. A labour of love we'll never see outside of the indie space again) Shogo (the Easter eggs and silliness really make you feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing the devs had so much fun with this.
Some that are must plays that have a cheesy or a barebones story: Star Wars: Republic Commando (overall plot is okay, the interaction between the squad members makes the game) XIII (Imo the story falls apart but it's a very cinematic game)ĭarkwatch (a bit cheesy and console/emulator only) Wolfenstein the new order and the old blood (in in the minority when I say the old blood had a much better plot, and it's not very long so it's easy to follow)įar cry 2 (more thematically than story, it takes place in a very brutal world) But I'm sad to say that if you want to binge on single player fps games, you're not going to have a lot of options for good story.įor story and good gameplay, I recommend:
